Hi,

You've been misled. The Trail of Tears took place in Georgia during Fall 1838 - Winter 1839. -

Pawnee Mauldin was the daughter of Samuel and Carolyn McHardy Mauldin. Pawnee was born in Greenville, SC about 9/12/1851. Keep in mind that Sherman's middle name was Tecumseh and he does not have Native American heritage.

Here's the abstracted death notice from the Southern Patriot newspaper, issue of May 20, 1852 - Died at this place on the morning of Thursday the 13th inst. Pawnee, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Mauldin, aged 15 months and 4 days. pg. 211 Brent Holcomb's Marriage and Death Notices from the UpCountry of South Carolina 1826-1863.

Samuel Mauldin was the brother of Mary Thompson Mauldin (Mrs. Samuel Crayton).
