William Burnett Mauldin was born 1846 in Pickens Co., SC. He was the son of Rev. Mabrey Mauldin. In all records I have seen, William was shown as having married Mary Hopkins, which is correct, but William B. Mauldin was married twice. Evidence of this is shown in the 1900 and 1910 Pickens Co., SC census records. In the 1900 records, William and Mary (Hopkins) are shown as having been married only 15 yrs---not enough time for Mary Hopkins to have given birth to William's 10 children as shown on various Pickens Co. census records. The 1910 census shows William and Mary as having been married 26 years, and William's marital status as "M2". I could not read the number of children that Mary Hopkins had given birth to on either record, but it appears to be 5-6, with 4 living. A search of Pickens County cemetery surveys revealed that the wife and son of a W. B. Mauldin were buried in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Easley, SC. The child, Tyre, fit all credentials for William's son by his first marriage, but MARY L., the wife of W. B. Mauldin is shown as b. 1814, d. 1884, and these two Mauldin individuals are several pages apart in the cemetery survey. Today, I visited Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, and the cemetery survey for Mary #1 is wrong. Mary L. Mauldin, wife of W. B. Mauldin, was born April 6, 1844 and died June 10, 1884, age 40 yrs., 2 mos., and 4 days. She and the child Tyre are buried side by side, and Mabrey Mauldin is a few feet away. From the location of graves, Mary appears to be buried in a "Lesley" section of the cemetery, and I truly believe she is the daughter of James H. Lesley and Sallie G. Unknown Lesley, who are buried adjacent to Mary and Tyre. Does anyone out there have proof of this information??? Children of William B. Mauldin and Mary L.: Bascom C., b. abt 1871 Pinckney, b. abt 1874 Tyre E., b. 8/28/1876, d. 6/16/1886 Tyna A., b. abt 1878 William M., b. Apr. 1880 Belle, b. Mar. 1882 Children of William B. Mauldin and Mary A. Hopkins: July, b. abt 1886 Myrtle Cara b. May 1888 Sunie J., b. May 1890 Mary A., b. July 1892 Hope this info is helpful to someone. Will be glad to discuss further.
