Mauldin, South Carolina, not Mauldin until 1889

I've seen many posts of people being born/lived in Mauldin, SC, much earlier that 1889.

Before that date, Mauldin was known as Butler's Cross Roads. It was not named Mauldin until Mr. and Mrs. Riley Cox convinced their friend, Mr. W. L. (Pope) Mauldin, who was the Lt. Governor from 1882-1890, to move the proposed railroad from Simpsonville to Mauldin.

Mr. and Mrs. Cox donated land for the new depot and Mrs. Cox designated it "Mauldin" in honor of the Lt. Governor, who saved their area by moving the railroad.

I thought this might help someone looking on a map for Mauldin, and not finding it.
