Other posts show that Francis' mother (Grace Bennett) put him "up for adoption" in 1653. Court case shows that John Burrage (step-son-in law of Grace) forcibly removed Francis from Thomas Bradnox' home in 1659. Court cases also show that Thomas Bradnox and his wife were "notoriously merciless master and mistress". i.e. they were "implicated" in the deaths of 3 of their servants. Maryland Archives contains at least 153 instances of suits by or against them. By 1648 he (Bradnox) had already received 3 pardons for "rebellion, sedition, theft, robberies and other felonies" It was not unusual for courts to rule in favor of the masters. In any case - this puts a different light on just why Francis was removed. Possibly he was not for adoption but was "indentured" to learn a trade. Francis would have been in Bradnox home from age 13-19. Possibly Francis was also being abused.
