The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 16, 1906 When N.G. LUTZ was in the Shoshone reservation in Wyoming he made a filing in the land drawing for JOHN MAUK -- acting as a proxy in MR. MAUK's soldier right. It happened to be a lucky draw, the number being 550. This insures a good claim and MR. MAUK left this week to make good his intentions and will no doubt pick out a prize quarter section and The Leader congratulates him on his good fortune. He will be absent a couple of weeks perhaps and will later be controlled by the needs to secure full title. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 23, 1906 JOHN W. MAUK returned from the Shoshone country, Wyo., Sunday without filing on his claim. He says the water companies have a cinch on all the good land and demand that every one filing sign irrigation contracts, but do not bind themselves to furnish moisture. MR. MAUK is convinced that the majority of western land and reservation snaps are like mirages in the desert. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert October 27, 2004 iggy29@rnetinc.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
