Barbara,The information I have has been taken from copy birth cet./micro film of the 1841/1851/1861/1871 census so it is "correct"
My Grt. Grandfather was JAMES MAUGHAN,b1846,per the birth cert. (census shows b 1847)Mother was ELIZABETH born 1821 SHE NEVER married.James had a brother THOMAS b1860 And a sister CATHERINE b 1854 All at Woodside /Greenside in the parish of Ryton which is where I live.
I have not been able to find out what happened to Thomas.or Catherine. Now it appears that Elizabeth may have died at about1876. I will be looking at micro film of the 1881/1891 census in the comming weeks I do not have much faith in the detail shown on some of the geneology sites.
Looking for ward to hearing from Maughans who can help!
Regards John Maughan
