I am researching the background of my Gr.Gr. Grandfather Peter Mawdsley who was born in Great Crosby near Liverpool Lancashire about 1764.
He was a Ship's Captain early in life, apparently surviving an attack on his ship by Barbary pirates.
Later he describes himself as a 'gentleman'.
He was married first to Elizabeth, by whom he had at least one child.
Later he married Mary ? Weir in 1824 and they had James, Emma, Peter, William, Mary-anne, Edward and Mary-Anne.
James migrated to Aust. abt. 1855. Edward Emma and Mary-Anne migrated to Canada.
After Mary died in 1838, Peter married Anne.
He died in 1856 inSeacombe, Cheshire.
