Thank you for the interesting information on the Halsteds.
My 2nd cousin, Ryan Staake, received some of his information from our family genealogist, Holly Cogan. She lives in Michigan. I will have to ask them where they found their information, although Holly did write that some of it is still theory-perhaps the Butterfield connection.
My great-grandmother was Lavina Elizabeth Thompson. She married Charles Henry Rothfuss. They both came from large families. I knew Grandma Rothfuss (Thompson) as she lived to be 97. She helped raise my mother. Anyway, her maternal great-grandmother was Phoebe Halsted. Phoebe was married to Philip Conklin. Her decendancy looks like this:
Phebe (Phoebe)Halsted 1783-1854; Jonas Halsted c. 1769-died in Cuyahoga Co., Ohio; Timothy Halsted C. 1746-1834; Jacob Halsted c.1694-1756, Hempstead, Long Island. He married Sarah Coolman, c. 1705-1756. Next comes Timothy Halsted, 1658 born in Hempstead, Long Island and died in 1734-35 in Elizabethtown, NJ. He was married to Abigail Carman c.1655-1732. Timothy Halsted (1633-England-1703) who married Hannah Williams (c.1639-1698); Jonas Halsted c. 1611 in England and died c. 1683 in Hempsted, Long Island.
This is where the Susan Butterfield connection comes up. Abraham Halsted married Susan Whitley on 5 Sept 1596 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. The line then goes back through the Whitley family (Qwttley) and Maude/Mawde family until we end with John Mawde, before 1379 and died c. 1783 in Earoyd, Halifax, England.
Marth Denton was married to Jonah Halsted the son of my 7th great-grandfather, Timothy Halsted. Timothy's brother, Jacob, is my 6th great-grandfather.
I will look into what I can on these connections, but as I am also working on my Morrow ancestors, I have a lot of research to do! (Not to mention that I am helping to do some research on my Thompson/Robinson/Fisher lines as well!) If anyone in the Halsted/Halstead group has any further information, I would appreciate it.
