Because we are talking about a very small pioneering community, you might know of some of these chararacters, as well as get a better idea of what is known of Margaretha Mauch, which might help you identify her better. So, I am going to post these exerpts...
My Great Aunt Rose Nagel wrote a family history book before she died.Maybe the leads she gives in her book will help, so I will quote:
"So it was no wonder that Georg Scherer was receptive to the call of opportunity from the Russian agent who came to his village. One summer day in 1809, with his wife Maria (last name unknown) and two sons, Konrad, 4, Kristoph, 1, Georg joined a number of other families for their journey to the land of promise..."
They moved from Oberwiler, Baden, in SW Germany, 2000 mileswith 65 other families, and pioneered Worms, (Ukraine) Russia.Maria has three other children, Barbara, Katharina (my ancestor)1810, and Michael 1812.
"Better times had come to Worms when Katharina Scherer married Philipp Nagel about 1835.We know nothing of Philip's parentage or birthplace. However, we do know he had relatives, Margaretha and George Nagel, who lived in the neighboring village of Rohrbach. To this couple (Philipp & Katharina) were born Jakob, Margaretha, Elisabeth, our forebear, Wilhelm, and at least two more brothers and (2 more)sisters of whom we have no record."
"In 1879, Wilhelm married Margaretha Mauch in Worms.Little is known about her parents. Her father must have been quite well-to-do.Margaretha remembers that they lived on a wheat estate (a kuthor) and had Russian servants. Her mother remarried after her husband's death and emigrated to the United States. At one time, she lived with William and Margaret in Sutton, Nebraska.Blind in her later years, she died at the age of 96 in South Dakota."
"The dowry that Margaretha brought to her marriage helped pay off a debt that Philipp, Wilhelm's father, had incurred.Wilhelm apprenticed out for four years as a cobbler and then plied his trade in Worms.Children born to this union were:Eva, Sophia, William, Emma, and Christopher.Even as they started their married life, critical events were beginning that would affect them."
There are a total of 12 children born, including my gGrand mother Margaret Nagel.I have at least some information about them all.
You seem so close to being able to place Margaretha, I thought this information might help, or even help others whose families were part of this small community.
