Re Abel Mattoon, here is summary of his bio. I would appreciate corrections and additions.
A Mattoon genealogy states that Abel Mattoon went from Hebron CT to Massachusetts where he was in the Revolutionary War.
He lived in Athens, Windham Co. Vermont, when the town was organized in 1781, and represented the town in the Vermont state assembly.
After living in Massachusetts and Vermont, he moved to Bolton, Washington Co. NY (1800 census), he lived in Thurman NY, near Bolton (1810 census), Warrensburg NY (1814 and 1816 tax rolls) then Hanover NY, near Silver Creek, Chautauqua Co. (1818 pension papers) then to Perrysburg, Cattaraugus Co. (1820 and 1830 census). Finally, he moved to Lagrange Co. Indiana, where he died after 1838.

served in Captain Thomas William's Comapny, Col. Patterson's regiment, Massachusetts Line during Revolutionary War.
"Abel MATTOON, a New Englander by birth, served in the Revolutionary war and early settled in Hanover. N. Y. [Chautauqua Co.], whence he removed to Perrysburg [Cattaraugus Co.], and finally to Wayne county, Ind., where he died. In all these places he was a typical pioneer.
