Hi Paul, Sorry I haven't found this entry before, an I don't know why either.
I have a Great-Granduncle named James Mattoon born to Ansel and Mary Mattoon 14 Feb 1842 in Worthington, Oh.
I found him in the Civil War files as son of Ansel.Ansel filed a petition on Apr. 9 1880, on application no. 262986.
On the muster rolls -- He was 20 years old when he enlisted in Aug 09, 1862.His Box# was 000541, extraction # 0017 and his Record # was 00001147.In Aug 1862 he claimed his residence as Eddyville, IA.
Served in Iowa Enlisted Co. "D" 36th Inf Reg. IA died at St Louis, MO on 12 September 1863 after being stricken with cholera in Yazoo Pass, about March 1st he was sent to WS General Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, in Worthington, Oh.
If I can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to drop a note.
