HI. The original Mattun or Maton were Huegonots driven out France by the Catholic King and settled in Deerfield Massachusetts in the early 1600's (reference the book now out of print, Mary Mattoon and her sons of the Revolution) They fought on the side of the King during the Frenc and Indian Wars until the Americaan Revolution. General Ebenezer Mattoon ( a later rank in the Mass Militia) was a Colonelin the Continental Army with Gen. Gates when they accepted the defeat of General "Gentleman" Johnnie Burgoyne at Saratoga. If you order a copy of the Mattoon Family Geanology from the Mattons listed on this Google Page it will clear up a lot of questions. I am a son of Wilhelmina Ruth Mattoon Reid a direct descendant of the Generals. This is fun to share info. I trust it is helpful. Due to my novice on the computer I am not able to find the Full name and address of the Mattoon's that have the book but you will find it on Google. My Grandfsther George Rollin Mattoon assisted in the research for their book in the New York Area. He was from Mass and Schenectady New York. Take care and good luck. I do not have the Mary Mattoon book down here in Nova Scotia it is up in Mass. Someday when I get up there I will bring it back down. Ed Reid Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada
