G.M. is Gabriel Marion Mattison and his wife was Margaret Richie. Gabriel was the son of John Mattison, 1773-1839 of Abbeville Co SC and Gracey Latimer 1776-1857. John's father was Benjamin Mattison and Jane Ghent of VA, died in Abbeville SC. Gracey was d/o Benjamin Latimer and Arcajah Louisa McConchie (or MacKechnie)of Charles Co MD. After Benjamin Latimer died in 1785, Arcajah married his executor, Robert Elgin, and moved to Abbeville Co SC. One of Benjamin Latimer's ancestors was Randolph Brandt, an early settler of Maryland, who migrated from Barbados. I am currently trying to research that history to clear up some apparent contradictions in the recorded genealogies.
Two of Gracey Lattimer's brothers, James and Clement, had large families near Honea Path. You should find many of their graves there.
Gabriel M Mattison had eight siblings. One Gabriel Latimer Mattison died in 1814 at age 18, two years before Gabriel M was born. The others married and had fanilies, including Mary my ggg-grandmother. Let me know if you want further details on these siblings.
My records show that Gabriel M and Margaret had 10 children over a 21-year period. Strangely, Mel does not match up with any of my data. I have heard of her before in oral histories and tried to figure which one she would be. So far I am stumped.
