James Henry Mattingly
Most of us seem to be involved largely with the families which came to Kentucky and other points West but there are a few who remained in Maryland who deserve some attention as well.
I've ran across two so far who have caught my eye but identifying them has been impossible with just what's available on the Net.I wonder if anyone on the list is around Maryland and may have access to Maryland records not yet on line.
The most recent family I have found is that of James Henry Mattingly who I first find in Patuxent, St. Mary's during the census of 1910.His wife was Clara M. Wallace, according to a descendant, and during 1910, the couple had no children.James Henry registered for the World War I draft at Leonardtown on 9-12-1918 and gave his date of birth as 2-12-1887.He said he was a carpenter and named his nearest relative as Clara M. Mattingly. The 1920 census shows the couple in Hillville, St. Mary's with five children.Thomas M. c-1912, Andrew c-1914, James V. c-1915 (This was James Vernon), Joseph L.c-1916, and Charles S.c 1917.
The 1930 census of Hillville shows James and Clara with twelve children. The first five are the same as those on the 1920 census except the boy who was named Charles is now named Chester S.The most recent children were:Alberta M. c-1921, Mary A. c-1922, Frances I.c-1924, James H., Jr. c-1925, George F. c-1926, Wallace R. c-1927 and Clara E. c-1929.
