http://stithvalley.comhttp://stithvalley.com has links to Triplett, Triplitt genealogy and to Bewleyville.org.According to the Triplett genealogy, Harvey Triplett eloped with a very young Myrtle Mattingly, daughter of Charles Mattingly. In the 1900 census, her name is spelled Mrytle, and on the Triplett genealogy page is spelled Mirtle in transcription of a newspaper article. There is a search function at this site, and typing in Mattingly, will bring up the fact that someone has several pictures of Earl S. Mattingly, either in a book or on CD.I'd click on and read everything there, then contact some of the people, asking if they know how you can determine the parentage of Earl S. Mattingly, who also eloped with Letitia, sister of Harvey Triplett, just a different year. After reading that two Mattinglys had eloped with two Tripletts, I thought the Mattinglys could be siblings, but did not find Earl in 1900.
I would also try to find out if the local newspaper for Bewleyville, KY, is on microfilm from 1884 through time that Earl S. Mattingly died, and if available for viewing.Sure would be nice if you could find an obit. for him.Have you tried to get a death certificate from the state where he died? One of my great grandmothers died in 1940, and the funeral home records noted where she was born and even where her father was born, supplied by her surviving husband.
