William,
Thanks for the reply. Here are a few more interesting tidbits, they don't fit exactly with the established histories, but who knows?
I know postively that my Joseph(1828-1908) was brothers with this William and that Thomas was their father.
From Illustrated Historical Atlas of Spencer County, IN, page 16. (Thanks to ERIC MATTINGLEY for this!)
"William Mattingly
Was born in Perry County, Indiana, April 9th 1820. His father was Thomas Mattingly; his mother's maiden name was Nancy Ann Woodson. The ancestors of his family were of Irish descent. The earliest definite traces locate them near Dublin, Ireland, from whence they emigrated to the United States, locating in the state of Maryland during the days of Lord Baltimore. His grandfather, Joseph Mattingly and his great-grandfather, Luke Mattingly, were both born near the present prosperous city of Hagerstown, the county seat of Washington County, Maryland."
Is it possible that the lineage goes like this?
Ignatius Sr 1704-1789
Luke 1743-???
John Jerimiah (Joseph???)
Thomas Mattingley (1797-1851)
James, William, Joseph, etc?
