MaryLu:
Was the Horace Preston your looking for born before 1800, or married before 1800? If he was born before 1800 then they could very well be the same couple. The information I have came from the, "Mattice Family History", by Rex Mattice. He most likely got her birth date and place, 1811, Blenheim, NY from a census record, which are not always accurate.
I have seen census records which have had the age of the person off by as much as 14 years and the place of birth not right either.
The census takers got their information from whom ever was home at the time and that person may not have known for sure.
The other point to remember is that the microfilms of census records, that we have access to, are photos of the third copy of the original. The original being the census takers book. Those were transcribed at the state level and then again in Washington.
The odds of there being two Horace Preston's and two Permillia Mattice's married to each other is unlikely, but not impossible. I would sooner think that the dates one of us has, or both are off.
I would suggest that if you know about what years they were living in Luzerne County look at the census records closest to those years and see what they show for their ages and places of birth.
Tim
