Here is what I have in my Matthews data base:

Tobias Mathew; born abt. 1546 Bristol, Glouschester, Eng.
Died March 29, 1628.
Married - Frances Barlow who died May 10, 1629 father was William Barlow

Children:
Tobias Matthews, Oct. 3, 1577 born Salisbury died Oct. 13, 1655 (No Issues)
John Matthews, born Dec. 6, 1580
Mary Matthews, born abt. 1583, died abt. 1583
Samuel Matthews, born Feb. 1, 1582/83 in Salisbury, (Burnham, Buckinghamshire. Sent to Va. by King James I in 1622 on the Southampton. Married Francis Hinton.

Samuel Matthews married Francis Hinton and had the following:

Samuel Matthews born 1626 in Richmond, King & Queen Co. Va.
Francis Matthews born abt. 1638 in Warwick Co. Va. died Feb. 16, 1673/74.
Cecily Matthews born abt. 1626 in Nansemond, Va. married Peter Montague.

Samuel Matthews born 1626 (above) Lt. Col. in 1655 from Warwick Co. Va. married unknown and had:

John Matthews born abt. 1658 in Blunt Point, Warwick Co. Va. married abt. 1683 to Elizabeth Tavernor.

This would indicate that Samuel Matthews who died around 1660 was the son of Samuel Matthews of Tobias.

Hope this helps.

Barry
