Andy Bolsover of England has kindly provided the texts of three documents which might help researchers of Tobias Matthew and his family. They appear below: Will of Tobie Mathewe, archbishop of York 1 In the name of God Amen I Tobie Archbishopp of Yorke primate 2 and Metrapoliitaine of England, weake in body by reason of myne old age & the infirmities incidente 3 thereunto, yet of perfecte memory (the lorde name be praised) doe make & ordayne this xxiijth day of 4 August Anno Dni 1625 this my last will & testament in manner & forme followinge. Borne at Eaton Colledge Matthew Parker my first sonn was borne in the year 1575 the 11 of July being Saterday betwixt 9 e. 10 of the clock at night. His godmother my Mother, his godfathers my brother Dave and my brother Parker. He departed this life in March next following and was buryed in Eaton Church. Borne at Salesbury. Toby Matthew was borne . 1577 the therde of October being Thursday a littell after thre of the clock in the after noone, his godmother my Mother in lawe, his godfathers Mr. Estecourte and Mr. Weekes. Borne at Salesbury My first daughter was still borne 1579 the seconde of August being Tusday at twelve of the clocke at night and buryed in the Cathedrall church at Salesbury. Borne at Oxford in Christ Church John Matthew was borne 1580 the sixt of December being Tusday at five of the clocke in the morneing his godmother my sister Westfailling ? , his godfathers Doctor Humfrie and Doctor Cullpepper. Borne at Salesbury Mary Matthew was borne 1582 the 24 of October wensday being at five of the clocke in the aftern noone her godmothers the countice of Pembroke and my Mother, her godfather Dr. Whyt. Shee departed this Lyfe the 6 after next following and was buryed at the Cathederall Church at Salesbury. Borne at Oxford in Christ Church Samuell Matthew was borne 1583 the fifth of February being Wensday at two of the cloke in the morneing his godmother Mrs.Humfry his godfathers Dr. Slithers and Dr. Witherington This Samuell Matthew, my most deerly beloved sonne, departed this Life most Christianly the 15 of June 1561/1601 and is buryed in Peter-House in Cambridge. To my goddaughter Frannces Scott fortye shillings in money 33 and to Timothie Scott, Anne Scott, and Jane Scott, Twenty shillings apeece Item to 34 my neece the lady Cade and Mris Elizabeth hir sister and unto my nephew Mr William 35 Daye Thirtie shillings apeece to make them rings, and to my nephew and godsonne 36 Richard Day three pounds, Item to my neece Anne fletcher thirtie shillings for 37 aringe, and to Franncis Fletcher my godson three pounds, To my neece Mrs Margrett 38 Littleton one gold ringe with a table diamond and Ten lesse diamonds about it which 39 was sent me by Queene Anne, To my neece Mris Elizabeth Dickins thirty shillings to 40 make her aringe, To Mrs Frannces Jenkes thirty shillings to make herr aRinge, and to 41 my neece Mrs Eliannor Toothby Five pounds in money, Item to Mrs Ursulay 42 Sheffeild my goddaughter one diamond sett pendant wise with a little ruby at the ende 43 which was sent me by Queene Anne afforesaid, Item I give and bequeath to my 44 sonne Sir Toby Mathew knt one golde ringe sett with a xjo diamonds which the 45 Kings majestie that now is gane me, Item I give to my sonne Mr John Mathew the 46 summe of five hundreth pounds in money Provided alwayes and my will is 47 That the said somme of Five hundreth pounds shall remayne in the Costodye of my Executors 48 duringe the liffe of my said sone John and he to gane only the benefitt therof duringe 49 his lyffe, And after his decease my will is that the said somme of Five hundreth pounds 50 shall whollie remaine to Frannces and Dorcas Matthew daughters of the said John 51 and to the survivors of the said Frannces and Dorcas, Item I give to Mr Josias Mathew 52 my Grandsonne Two hundreth pounds in money, And my will is That one Hundreth 53 pounds therof shalle for the sole use of Barberie his now wyffe, and her Eldest Brother 54 or such other kinsman as she shall approve of to gane the Costodie therof for her beniffytt 55 and behoofe, To my grandson Mr John Matthew two hundreth pounds in money, Item I 56 give to my grandchild Frannces Mathew afforesaid the somme of foure hundreth pounds 57 And to her syster Dorcas Mathew three hundreth pounds in money to be payd at ther severall 58 Aige of one and twenty yeares or dayes of marriage which shall first happen, And if eyther of 59 them shall departe this lyffe before ther severall aige of one and Twenty yeares or dayes of 60 marriage, then my will is that the survivor of the said Frannces and Dorcas shall gane the 61 parte and porcion of eyther of them deceassinge, And my will is further that my Executors shall 62 allow to the said Frannces and Dorcas the beniffit of ther said porcions for ther maintenance 63 until ther severall aiges of one and Twenty yeares or dayes of marriage as afforesaid, And 64 Further I give and bequeath to the said Frannces and Dorcas Mathew all such things as are 65 Conteyned in one truncke standinge in the little house in the upper end of the great Chamber 66 and also in asquare black Chiste over the kitchinge to be Equally devided bewixte them, Item 67 I give unto my neece Worliche all my linnen which is in a stale skin Chest one petticoate of Scarlett 68 with an Imbrodered [garde ?], Two of my best gownes kirtles and bodies and my best nyght 69 gowne with my cloake safegard and hoode, and I doe also give unto her one hundreth pounds 70 in money Item I give to my nephew John Barlowe the like somme of one hundreth pounds, To 71 Mr Will[ia]m Turbut One gilte bowle with acover weighinge xiiijtene ouncs and a halffe graven With 72 [Srapps ?], to his wyffe one sylver Bason and spout pott for an Ewer weighinge forty one ounces, to 73 Richard Rothwell Cittizen and merchant taylor of London one gilt stand my cupp of sylver 74 with acover of the same weaigheinge fourtene ouncs and a halffe, and to his wiffe xxs to make 75 her aRinge To my servant William Walker Forty pounds and to Ursula Copley my maid servant 76 Tenn pounds, Item I bequeath to Peter house in Cambridge of which my sonne Samuell 77 was sometymes a scholar and dyed ther the somme of Two hundreth pounds to the proffit &. 78 increase therof to be yerely imployed by the Govnors of the said house for the behooffe of two 79 poore scholars ther for ever: The resydue of all my goods cattalls chattalls plaite Jewells 80 and other my estate whatsoever not before dispossede my debtsbeinge payde and Legacies and 81 funerall Charges discharged I give and bequeath to the said Frannces and Dorcas Mathew 82 my grandchildren to be payd and delivered unto them at ther severall aige of one & Twentye 83 yeares or dayes of marriage which shall First happen and to the survivor of eyther of them 84 To the poore of the parrishe where I shall deceasse Five pounds.
