Bev,

My vote goes to Eliza A., daughter of Joseph Matthews and Sarah Lamson, because she was born in June 1829. The other Elizabeth/Eliza was born in 1819 (date when her twin brother Hugh was born). Now if you look up Daniel McCobb in the censuses, there seems to be only one man by that name back in that time period. In 1850, Daniel, age 30, was living in Boothbaby, Lincoln Co., Maine, with his wife Eliza A., 21. In 1870, they were living in Alma, Lincoln Co., Maine, with a family. At the time, Daniel was 50, and Eliza A. was 40. Both censuses put Eliza's birth year about 1829. It's not likely that the enumerators were ten years off both times.

Probably the author of the book just goofed. Genealogies written that far back were not researched as now because records were not available to the public back then. More than likely, the most the information in the book came from family knowledge, and whoever supplied the facts about the family of Daniel and Mary Matthews probably just made a mistake.

Sue Ellen Fealko
