I have ancestors from Middlebury, VT, which isn't very far from Rochester.Although I didn't find a connection with your family, I found the coincidence too intriguing to ignore. This is the information I have:
James Matthews was born in 1785 in Middlebury. His wife was Margaret (don't know her maiden name), who was born in 1782 inConnecticut.Their only offspring that I know of is James Amos Matthews.James Amos was also born in Middlebury, but I don't know when.He apparently died some time between 1853 and 1860.James Amos married Ruth (maiden name I don't know), who was born in 1824 in Vermont and died in 1915 in Detroit, MI.James and Ruth had two children that I know of; Judson, who was born in 1852 in New York, and James Amos, who was born in 1853 in Vermont and died in 1917 in Detroit.
This James (b 1853) is my great-great grandfather, and I have a fair amount of information about his descendants. So if you are able to make a connection, let me know so we can share information.
