Hi...I have been tracing my Matthews ancestors in England and Wales for some time; I have heard that all the Matthews/Mathews in England and Wales descend from Sir David. I have been to Llandaff Cathedral and have seen the alabaster altar tombs there. I have traced my ancestors back to the mid-late 18th century in the Somerset/Wiltshire/Gloucestershire area. I also have seen descendancy charts of Sir David's sons that go to the mid 18th century and in that same geographical area. But I have not been able yet to make any firm connection.

Do you have any information regarding Matthews descendants related to Sir David, specifically in the Bath/Bristol area? The earliest confirmed ancestor of mine was named William, wife Elizabeth, a yeoman, probably born @1775; he lived near Wells and was the father of my GGF William Edward, born 1810 at West Cranmore. Obviously, if Captain Robert is known in the 1990's, information exists of a far more recent heritage than anything I have found.

I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me, or refer me to.

Thank you so much.
