Llandaff Cathedral, dedicated to C6th Celtic St Tielo, was sacked by Owen Glyndwr in C15th. Reputedly as a reward for Sir David Mathew's act of devotion in its restoration the then Bishop gave the relic (the skull of St Tielo) to the Mathews.

The Mathew chapel has 3 good albaster altar tombs e.g. Sir David -Edward IV's standard bearer, knighted at the Battle of Towton. We lost the "right" of burial when we ceased to maintain the north roof.

After various adventures the relic was returned on Saint Tielo's feast day that is 9th February 1994.
