Dr Thomas Matthews 1622-1676
I can't believe that there is no record somewhere of the parents of Dr Thomas Matthews 1622-1676 who emigrated to America from England with four man-servants and settled in southern Maryland.Data shows he was a lawyer and a doctor and he was granted considerable land in Charles Co by Lord Calvert. He is listed with "Gent" after his name and was called Lord of St Thomas Manor. He was probably the first Matthews in this country although that is just a guess.Seems like someone of that distinction would be from a family well known to someone. But I have hit the wall there.Sometimes he is listed with one "t" and sometimes with two.If anyone can help I would be most grateful....
