I have the land records. Also, the book,Misc. Ancient Records of Moore Co.by the late Rassie Wicker. Moore taken from Cumberland 1784. He write of the Matthews- The Matthews family lived on Big Crain's creek, south of Cameron. Thomas, the son of Thomas Sr. of Cross Creek, came up into Moore and settled upon a tract of land granted to his Father, situated on Reedy Branch, of Crain's creek, very early in the area's settlement. His son, James, was an entry taker for the county, and married a daughter of Robert Dickerson, of Deep River and removed west. Jacob Matthews lived at the top of the hill east of Herd's Creek, on the present highway Rt. 27, from Cameron to Carthage. He is buried in the old Crain's Creek cemetery between that place and route 1.
Do you know what part of S.C. any of the Matthews moved to? I have found a James and Sara(Matthews) McDonald in Chesterfield Co. buying or selling land in Lancaster Co. S.C.
Hoping this is my line, but haven't been able to prove it, yet. Thomas Matthews Jr. is referred to as a Revolutionary War Hero. I haven't found any records yet on him. Sincerely, Ruth ( I think this is what you wanted. I don't know what removed west refers to.)
