The Matteson DNA project. I have spoken about this in the past and because of some recent findings have decided to bring it up again. Unfortunately the women and the members who descend from the Matteson women cannot partake. The whole purpose of the test is to first of all prove you are a Matteson. That can be accomplished with a 12 marker test. A 12 marker test can show which people in the testing group you are most closely related to. BUT...no DNA test can prove you are a direct relation to any other person without DNA from the common ancestor. How many of us have a piece of our ancestors just sitting around??? As a person chooses to upgrade their test (without having to provide another sample) the "weeding out" of the lines gets more apparent. Most participants match each other exactly at 12 markers. Which means they all shared a common ancestor back hundreds of years. Consider it a "baseline" test. Recent results have just come in from the 67 marker test which shows 3 members extremely closely related. And all 3 have a brick wall in the same generation. Since the test cannot pinpoint the common ancestor I am hoping that someone with a PROVEN line back will upgrade to the 67 marker. If the right person does the 67 marker test 3 lines may be laid to rest at last. I am not the most well versed person on the DNA project. I readily admit that. But, I have and do support the project. I know that times are difficult financially for everyone, including us. If any males can please find a way to upgrade the marker tests (reduces the cash outlay if done in steps) and aim for the 67 it would be wonderful. Especially if you have a brick wall around 1800. That's it for now. Take care all. Be well and safe. Marge Matteson Notify Administrator about this message?
