Rachel was 1 year old in 1850. Richard married Emaline in 1845. I thought Rachel was named for Rachel Osler but Emaline was her mother.
I just looked at the 1850 census for Thomas and Martha again and it is Esther Marshall, age 83, in the census.
The bible records show Elizabeth Marshall was born 9 December 1820 which is the birth date I had for the wife of Joseph Ellis Matlack. Thomas and Martha Matlack in the 1850 census were the nephew and niece of Richard,
