Lewis I think Joe is on the right track and may have the missing pieces. This is what I found. From Vol. II of the Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy. Recorded in Philadelphia Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) 1848,12,20. John W. and Franklin, minors, recf Pilesgrove MM. (recf ) - received) 1855,9,12. John W., s Richard and Sarah, Phila., m Helena E. Morss, dt Thomas L. & Julia, Phila., at house of Thomas L. Morss, Phila. (mcd) (mcd) – married contrary to discipline 1855,12,19. Franklin get Chester MM, N. J. (get) - granted certificate to From the 1850 census, Philadelphia Pa. Franklin Matlack, age 19, Bricklayer, born New Jersey John Matlack, age 20, Machinist, born New Jersey They were living with the family of James Clothier. Looking at these records I think Franklin and John are brothers and their parents were Richard Matlack and Sarah. If Joe is on the track I think he is on, Richard was the son of Joseph Matlack and Anna Shute. Joseph Matlack was the son of William Matlack and Mary Turner. William Matlack and Mary Turner had a son named Reuben. Reuben had a son, Asa Matlack, who collected a lot of genealogical records. This is a page from Asa’s notes as transcribed by Kirk Matlack. Matlack Jr. died 12 of 10 mo 1805, see p 44. Another page from Asa’s notes. 793 [29] from 23 Joseph Matlack, born 21 of 8 mo 1767, mard to Anna Shute in Friends Meeting House in Moorestown. Their Children: John mard to Julia Ann Lippincott Mary to Abraham Reeves Rebecca deceased unmarried [60] Arthur to Elizabeth R. Haines Joseph decd unmarried Richard married to - It appears Asa does not have Richard’s wife and I could not find Franklin in Asa’s records. I suspect this is the Richard who married Sarah and had sons Franklin and John W. Thomas Chalkley Matlack, a grandson of Asa, also did a great deal of research on the Matlack family. The Family History Center has microfilmed the records of both Asa and Chalkley. Chalkley,s records may have more information. If you go this route you want film 511742, Indexes and books 1 to 32. Books 24, 25 and 26, Descendants of William Matlack and Ann Antrim are the ones you will be interested in. Curt Miller Notify Administrator about this message?
