I attempted to write directly to your posted email, but it was not accepted.I also had relatives in the Pee Dee River area of SC in the late 1700s and the early 1800s.There are a number of Mathis/Mat(t)hews in northeastern SC (Cheraws and Georgetown Districts in 1790 and afterwards in Chesterfield, Darlington, Marion, and Marlboro Districts/Counties) in the U.S. Census 1790-1830.My known ancestor, listed as Britton Mathews in the Chesterfield County 1820 census, was in Hall County, GA, in the 1830 and 1840 census.Perhaps we are related.
Some of my known cousins and I have done DNA tests with Family Tree DNA.Has anyone in your family done DNA tests? As a female you could do the Family Finder test, but the best test to prove a line of paternal ancestors is a Y-DNA test, which requires a male with the name Mathis/Mat(t)hews.Do you have a brother or male Mathes cousin who would be willing to do the test?Information at www.familytreedna.com.If you are interested or have questions, just reply to this email.Doyle Mathis [email protected]
