Hi Vince,
My database is still a work in progress, with everything currently on cards, not yet input to the PC, so searching is slow. I'll see what I can find by looking Christina Ross to see if I can get back a generation, but it may take a day or two to get back to you.
However, the little I do have on your GGF is from the 1881 census:
5 Harbour Row, Ardrossan (GRO 576/2 ED5 p4:
Daniel Mathieson (head, married, Dock Labourer, 39, b Lochwinnoch), Alice (wife, married, 28, b Ireland), John Smith Mathieson (son,4, b Ardrossan), Sarah (Daughter, 2 months, b Ardrossan). Do you have a maiden surname for Alice?
There seems to be a Kintyre/Knapdale connection to the Lochwinnoch Mathiesons. I'm not sure if there's a connection to your Daniel or not, but the 1881 census has 3 young sons all born in Llanafan, Cardigan to a Daniel Mathieson and Christina (surname unknown). These boys were all in Scotland at the time of the 1881 census, staying with uncles:
John C Mathieson (c 17/1/1867) at High Langstilly Farm, Lochwinnoch with his uncle Dugald Mathieson, (head, married, 65, farmer b Kilcalmonell, Argyll), Mary (wife, married, 58, b Lochwinnoch), John (son, single, 30, b Lochwinnoch), Robert (son, 28, b Lochwinnoch), Marion (daughter, 26, b Lochwinnoch).
Archibald James Mathieson (c 15/11/1868) at 65 Craigiehall St , Goven, with his uncle Hugh McTavish (head, married, 68, night watchman, b Kilmartin, Argyll), Jane (wife, 68, b Campbeltown), John (son, single, 32, ropelayer, Knapdale).
Alexander Mathieson (c 29/5/1870) at 12 Storie St, Paisley with his uncle Archibald Mathieson (head, married, 53, dairyman & farmer, b Kilcalmonell, Argyll), Elizabeth Mathieson (sister, single, 50, dairywoman, b Kilcalmonell, Argyll).
I'll continue to search and let you know what I find.
regards,
Ken Mathieson,
Uddingston, Lanarkshire
