My gr gr gr grandfather was Benjamin Mathias who lived in Holly Grove, Corapeake, Gates County, North Carolina. He was married to Mary Jane Ballard, born in 1829. Their daughter Margaret Elvira Mathias and Jesse Porter were my gr gr grandparents. Their daughter Sarah Augusta Porter and James Madison Hedgebeth were my great grandparents, and their daughter Mary Alma Hedgebeth was my grandmother.
I have not been able to find a lot of information about the Mathias family yet, but I have recently been in touch with a cousin whose grandmother, Willietta Porter was a grand-daughter of Margaret Elvira Mathias and had collected an enormous amount of information about the family history. My cousin has not had time to sort through all of her grandmother's papers, but she very well might have a lot of information that we are looking for.
Lets keep in touch and I'll let you know if and when I learn anything.
