Still looking for George M. Mathews (GMM) (c. 1769 – June 2, 1851) and Amy Jennings Mathews(AJM) (c. 1779 – Nov 1, 1866 of Muskingum Co. Ohio. (dates for GMM and AJM are from headstones located in Newton Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio.)

George born in VA, Amy born in VA. George could be related to “Stockley” as history books say that he came as a squatter with one David Stockley (DS)to Springfield Twp., Musk. Co., O (info for DS can be seen at possibly from the DELMARVA area as DS was.

According to Bible of Charlotte Pletcher, granddaughter of GMM and AJM, GMM came to Muskingum Co, Ohio in year 1800. (source: Barbara Gabe) This corresponds with Musk. Co. history books that also say that GMM also came with one John Mathews (JM) to Musk. Co., O near that time. No relation is given. Books claim that they were “millwrights” . This is not the JM that was brother to Dr. Increase Mathews. This family was from the Mass. area and that JM was a surveyor for Rufus Putnum of Marietta fame.

My relation to GMM and AJM is as follows:

George M. Mathews m. Amy Jennings
David William Mathews Sr. m. Sarah Ann Tipton
David William Mathews Jr. m. Phoebe Ann Slack
Pearlie Homer Mathews m. Pansy Georageanna Young
Paul Kenneth Mathews m. Frances Bonita Jones
Thomas Mathews

Thus, GMM is my ggg grandfather.

Any info would be appreciated.
