We do not think that Issac Matthews was the father of Thomas who died in 1785. We do not know who his ancestors were or when they came to this country. y-DNA testing seems to support this. One thing you might notice is that the Matthews for several generations tended to use family names over and over--quite a few named Thomas in the group as well as other names.
