I believe that Mary E Waits was the wife of William Harrison Matthews. He was killed in the Civil War. I am not sure when she died.
He was the son of William and Mary B Parker Matthews. This William was the son of Thomas and Nancy Terry Matthews. Thomas was the son of Thomas and Eleanor McKnight Matthews. This Thomas was the son of Thomas and Margaret Matthews--he died in Chatham county, NC in 1785 and his will is online.
There were quite a few Matthews in Gwinnett and most if not all of them were members of one branch or the other of this family. Before this the family was in Laurens county, SC.
