Hello, Randall, In the 1880 census, this was your family, living in Sumter, Williamsburg Co., SC (p. 211): Mathews, Robert, 70, born in SC, a carpenter, parents born in SC Annie, 67, born in SC, parents also born in SC Penina, 28, born in SC, parents also born in SC Did Vina marry a man name Sam Floyd? Because right next door is this household: Floyd, Sam, 30, a laborer wife Vina, 21 daughter Lizzie, 2 son Robert, 6/12 (born the previous December) Everyone was born in SC as well as their parents. Ten years earlier, in the same place, in the 1870 census (p. 180), you find: Matthews, Robert, 58, a farmer Anna, 55, keeping house Susan, 18, a farm laborer Jessy, 13 (male) Lavinia, 12 [“Vina” must have been short for Lavinia] Panina, 9 [An error here. Penina's age probably was 19] Also in the household, a Levi Cook, 23, a farmer. Everyone was born in SC. There were several Floyd households nearby, one with a Samuel, age 18, in it on pp. 179-180. It consisted of just a mother Sarah, 42, and children. In 1860, even with various spellings, I can't find Robert and Anna. Then in 1850, all I can find is a single Robert Matthews, 39, in Williamsburg Co., living in the household of a Drucilla Barclay, 39, plus her children. I hope this provides you with some information. Sue Ellen Fealko Notify Administrator about this message?
