Regarding my grandparents:
Clifton Daniel and Margaret had one child in Chicago, Illinois:
-William Clifton (1918-2002). Margaret and an unborn daughter died in a Rockford hospital during a major bacterial outbreak in 1926.
Because both these grandparents died when my father was very young we've never known much about them, particularly Clifton's wife. Now part of the puzzle has been solved. Both her first and last name were misspelled on her Death Certificate, and we had the year wrong, too.The Death Certificate had her name as Margaruite Mathison, and that's why we could never find it.(The Research Desk of the Rockford Public Library found it by manually scrolling through ALL the death records of that approximate time!)The correct spelling of her first name is Marguerite, and she died on March 28, 1925, nine days after losing a baby daughter on March 19, 1925.On the baby's Death Certificate her first name was spelled Margaret.
So much for the accuracy of "official records."
