Looking for any help with finding the parents of Benjamin Swett Mathes. Benjamin was born about 1848 in Pennsylvania. His father is reportedly from New Jersey. His wife Emma Hope was born in Wales apparently in the 1840's. Died in 1876 in Pennsylvania. In the 1880 Census Benjamin's mother Ellen R. is reported to be 72 years old and living with Benjamin and his childen, first born was Henry Hope Matthes (b 1871 d 7/31/1731) presumably named for Emma Hope's father, however, we have nothing to clearly document this. They also had a daughter Lillie May Matthes (b 1874). Benjamin reportedly remarried after 1880 but do not know the name of his second wife.
The 1880 census also reports that a John Mathes was living in the same house. And is listed as Benjamin's Nephew.
Any help would be appreciated.
