Thank you so much! I am most interested in the John David genealogy, but here is the Barber info in case that helps any. His wife's name has had many spellings, different among the different sources we have, which is weird, cause she died as recently as the 1970s, but my dad didn't know the spelling of her name. John and Bessie have one living daughter, who could settle this, but she is almost completely deaf and is near 80 or better, though I think she walks a good 2 or 3 miles a day! As Grandma Bessie, this aunt of mine is Pentecostal. I think Grandpa John may have been, too since that's the way the kids were raised. My Dad remembered being carried to church by his father, John David, and he remembered his sister being carried by his Mom, Bessie. During this time, they traveled a lot from Danville, VA, to the Winston-Salem area, but I think they lived in Danville at least till John died.

John David Matherley married Bessie Lou Emma (or LouAmma, or Lou Anna, or maybe some combo of these) Barber. He died a young man after 1924, but before 1940. She was born on Oct. 20, 1898, in Danville, VA, to the late Preston Green Barber and Kathleen Young Barber. I assume Young was her mother's maiden name, but I have no proof at all.

For some reason I have down in one place that his name was James David Matherley, but I think this is an error. The copy of their marriage certificate says Jno, I think (I've misplaced it again). The Obit of Bessie just says J. D. Matherley.

Here is my Blog with the same info.

And, again, thanks so much!
