I have a James B. Matherly b.April 1833 in Pittsyllvania Cty, Va. He married Lucretia Gaulding, (b January 1838)on August 22, 1850 also in Pittsylvania Cty, Va. They appear on the 1860 census in Wilkes County, NC. Children of this marriage were:Samuel Jefferson Matherly b abt 1851; Louise,b abt 1855;Martha J b abt 1856; James Oliver b abt 1857 (my line); Sarah Elizabeth b abt 1859; Ellen b abt 1863; Lemanda b 1865;Minnie b 1867, Ulysses Grant b. Aug 19, 1866;and Marshall Sherman b. Nov 23, 1871. James Matherly and Lucretia appear in the Wilkes County census' of 1870,1880,and 1900. James died in 1907 in Wilkes Cty, NC and Lucretia died Jun 3 1927. (have copy of death certificate)informant was Ulysses Grant Matherly. Burial at Dunkirk Methodist Church, Lewis Fork area, Wilkes County, NC in an unmarked grave. The son James Oliver Matherly DOD May 13 1937 and is buried at Haulks Chapel (now Fairview Cemetery) alonw with his wife Cornelia Hamby DOD June 13, 1918. I have visited the graves. I have not confirmed James B Matherly's parents and not sure of the middle initial B. I do have info on the ancestry of of Lucretia Gaulding however back several generations.
