First, I am located in Brownwood, Texas. Not too far from San Angelo where my great grandfather died.
My grandmother told me that her father left Alabama because he had gotten into a disagreement with another man. She wasn't absolutely sure about the circumstances and is very vague in her information because evidently the family didn't like to talk about it that much. He thought that he had killed the man. He wasn't sure if the man died, but that is supposedly the reason he left Alabama. There is another researcher here at Genforum that has a story identical to my ancestor, but nothing fits after that. This man's name is George Mack Matheny.
I don't have any reason or evidence to support the fact that my mack matheny was ever married before, but he was 44 years old when he married my great grandmother which makes me wonder if he may have been married before. They were married in 1906.
