Dear Mrs. Adams,
You are welcome (I think). As the article says there was a letter written to William Blake Metheny dated July 2, 1945 by Major John Bailey Nicklin, III,wherein he states, "NOW William Matheny also married a widow Francis Mason so she must have been the widow of William Mason who was deceased in 1690, leaving a minor daughter Barbara."
This is obviously an assumption by Major Nicklin but one based upon some fairly good evidence. As you know Francis Mason had a son who was mentioned in William Wentworth Matheny's will. His name was also William Mason and he therefore may have been William Mason, Jr. Since I have not found anything to contradict Major Nicklin's information, I believe he was correct in his assumption. Of course, I could be wrong on this point but not on the Francis Norgrave Mason issue. I do hope this helps you as you try to sort this out. Unfortunately, some facts can never be established beyond a reasonable doubt in genealogy because many of the original sources are gone or were never kept in the first place. Good Luck and Best Wishes, Edwin E. Powell
