Hello again, Sorry it has taken me so long to reply - I thought I had lost your connection but think I have it now! Anyway, below is an answer that I found online (querie archive) that should explain the Matheny / Parrish question. I originally had seen the basic information at ancestry.com searching for Elizabeth Matheny but I think this explains it even better. Also, if you have any other Elizabeth Matheny information, I would enjoy reading it. -Kathy Sent by Ferne Baldwin Manchester College In the 1880 census Jonas Broadwater's family is emunerated next to James Hugh Parrish and Mary Frances Warnick. I am trying to find a connection between James' mother Hanna Havens and the Broadwater Chapel. From what I can figure out the church was Methodist Episcopal in about 1840-1850.Joseph Warnick was a member. It must have had a conversion to Dunkard Brethren at some point but it is not officially listed as Brethren til 1926. According to family sources Hannah Havens was a travelling Dunkard Preacher. She was either married to or living with a Moses Matheny on the property of John B. Barnes in 1860 and 1870. Family sources say that Matheny was James Hugh Parrishes blood father and James adopted the Parrish name. Parrishes are a very prominent family in Marion Co. WV being descended from the Maryland Rev. Sol. Edward Parrish. Around 1860 Moses Matheny, Hannah Havens and James (Jehu) left Marion Co. CO WV and came to Allegany (Garrett) County. Moses was separated from his wife Elsie Wright and may not have divorced or maybe married twice?? After 1870 I cannot track Hannah. She seems to have disappeared. My grandmother said she came to visit them about 1907 in Pa and she wore a black dress, a bonnet and always carried a Bible. Any leads appreciated.
