2. Tales & Trails of Brown Co., IN by Brown County Business & Professional Womens Club, 1965, p.29-31: Leaving Nashville going west, turn to the right at the first road over the bridge. Bear left at the fork in the road, climb the hill on Upper Jackson Branch road to see one of Brown County's old landmarks, an old stage coach inn, now privately owned and known as the Beall Place.Located at the crest of one of the large hills on the right, it is the largest log house in the county still on its original site.In 1858 F. A. Matheny owned the property and built the house of large native poplar hand-hewn logs of extraordinary length. The original cabin consisted of two rooms below and two rooms above with an open dog trot between the lower rooms. This open way was used for hauling in wood by wagons and for stage coach passengers to unload.Since the cabin was built on the route of the stage coach run between Columbus and Martinsville, it was used as a tavern and overnight stop. F. A. Matheny died in 1861 and was buried on the property.
