William was the son of Columbus Dotson Matheny b. 14 Jan 1858 Arkansas d. 12 Jul 1930 Sharp Co., Arkansas and Ida Nora Hamilton b. 07 Jan 1881 Arkansas d. 21 May 1964. They had the following children.

Survivors are a son Mack Matheny of ravenden, 2 daughters, Jaunita Smith of Cave City & Monterie Anderson of Batesville; 3 brothers, Woodrow & John, both of Cave City & Harry of Leachville; a sister, Marie Dawson of Leachville; 7 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Sunday at Maxwell Baptist Church near Cave City
