I am related to Margaret Gum through her husband, I am a 3rd Cousin 3 times removed so this is not really my line. The information I have has come from the web, let me know if you what the site, and census records.
This is what I have.
Margaret Jane Gum b. Abt. 1834 d. Aft. 1880, was the child of Abraham Gum & Nancy McCloud, they were married August 17, 1834, Pocahontas Co., (West) Virginia.
Their other children were William Riley Gum b. October 22, 1838, Nancy Priscilla Gum b. Abt. 1838 and Leonard T. Gum b. March 1849
Margaret married June 28, 1853, Elk River, Pocahontas Co., Virginia to John Wesley Matheny b. Abt. 1831 d. Aft. 1880
The children were Stephen b. Abt. 1854, Mary J. b. 1857, Howard R. b. 1860, Washington J. b. 1861, Sarah C. b. 1863, William H. b. 1865, John, Minnie b. 1867, Breson E. b. July 1870, Ida B. b. 1872 & Oda F. b. 1874
All but Stephen and Mary are listed in the 1880 census for Warren, Upshur Co, West Virginia. Stephen and Mary are in the 1870 & 1860 census for Upshur Co., West Virginia.
The parents of Margaret’s Husband John Wesley are Rueben Matheny b. October 13, 1809 Bath, Virginia d. October 22, 1877, Ritchie, West Viginia & Ann Wanless b. Abt. 1803 Bath Co., Virginia d. December 18, 1887, Eagle District, Harrison Co., West Virginia.
