Hello Bonnie, My trouble is that I am only guessing on how to spell it to make it sound like we pronounce it. My father was born in Kinston, North Carolina though his Dad was from South Carolina. I suspect you and I may be talking about saying the name the same way. The one thing I am sure of is that I have never heard a Matheny pronounce the name starting with Math as in 2 plus 2 equals 4. This was how many none Matheny’s first pronounce it. The other mistake that people is starting it Meth as in methane. Now I don’t know if this is how the Metheny’s pronounce it but I do know I have worked two Pat Metheny concerts in the role of fire safety and that the guys working for Pat Metheny pronounced his name the same way as I pronounce mine. When I get some time, I will find a place to down load a sound wave and place myself saying my name and then folks can come and listen and tell me if that is how they pronounce it. Will let you know when I get that down. Thanks for your reply. Burt Notify Administrator about this message?
