Hello, Stephanie,
I'm yet another descendent of Samuel and Sarah Marianne Shields Matchett of Banbridge, County down, Northern Ireland. This through their daughter Jane, born in Montreal Quebec, 1833.
So far getting further back than Samuel has been a real challenge.I do know of both Jonathan and William Matchett of Banbridge in the 1760's.But have no clue whether they were related to Samuel.I found your comments about Quaker Matchetts moving from County Armagh to County Down quite intriguing, along with possible court cases and family complications in the early 1800s/late 1700s.
Could this family be linked to the Matchetts who settled in Northern Ireland from England in the 1600s.
I would be most appreciative of any assistance anyone can provide.Plus, whould anyone be interested I have quite a bit of information on the descendents of John and Jane Matchett Gilbert.
