I may be able to help some, but do not currently have specifics. I grew up in Azalia, MI. My father was Leslie Durias Masten. My grandfather was Albertus Masten.
When I was a teenager I worked for Arlie Hitchcock. His family home was in Azalia but was vacant. He hired me to take care of it for him. He always said that he was going to move back to Azalia when he retired.
He was employed by the Ann Arbor Rail Road and lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He was a Mason and was going to help my brother get into the Masons.
He always said he was a cousin of mine.
But my father said he was either a second or third cousin. I don't remember since my father died when I was 14 years old.
My father had told me that the corner one mile east of Azalia on Ostrander Road at one time was known as Masten Corners. The Mastens settled there. When I was a child my uncle John Masten had a farm on the north west corner. However, my father was born in Sexton Iowa and returned to Azalia with
my grandfather by buckboard when he was seven years old.
I am going to Azalia Michigan in January to visit the cemetery
and try to get some specific dates. I still have family in that area.
Hope this info is of some use. I would appreciate any info that you might have or get on early settlers of Azalia. I will send you what I find in January.
