I am trying to solve a mystery about a Lizzie Massey. She was listed as a witness for the marriage of my grandparents, Alvin Guthrie and Julia McCoy on 12/17/1905 in Hodges, Jones Co., Texas.
The mystery is Julia's grandmother was always known as Edna Elizabeth Barnes. However, I have two death certificates for her sons that state their mother's name was Edna(Ednia) Massey.
Edna was born about 1824 in Alabama and married Drayton B. McCoy before 1840. They lived in Attala Co., MS, where several children were born, by 1860 & 1870 the family was in Choctaw Co., MS and 1880 Dorsey Co., AR and before 1900 the family moved to Jones and Taylor Co., Texas.
Now I am wondering IF there is a connection between the Massey's and the McCoy's. In several of the early McCoy census records there is a Frank Massey born about 1833 in Alabama living close by.
Does anyone know if the Massey's and McCoy's married?
Has anyone seen the name Edna Elizabeth in the Massey line?
Does anyone know who Lizzie Massey was?
There is a G.P. Massey born 1858 MS and family living in Jones Co., Tx in 1900. Who is this family?
