Does anyone have real information on the the deaths of Rachel Sherrill Massey and her husband Abraham Massey?
Did they both die in 1787? I know Abraham died ca 1787, but I am not sure that Rachel died at this time. Where did they die?
I have seen many conflicting reports. Some say Lincoln Co., NC, while others say they died at Lookout Mountain, DeKalb Co., AL.
I rather doubt the Lookout Mt. report....this was totally unsettled territory in 1787...Fort Payne wasn't erected until much later.
I really think the AL reference is to later family members who were also named Rachel and Abraham....niece's, nephews, and cousins of the Rachel Sherrill and Abraham Massey who died in 1787.
The guardianship of their minor children and the settlement of Abraham's estate occurred in Lincoln Co., NC.
